Description

A mesmerizing work of Iranian ambient Black Metal, Erancnoir – Frostfallen presents a deep dive into the bleak, icy realms of autumn and winter, capturing the raw, melancholic spirit of the seasons. The album draws its poetic inspiration from Austrian poet Imma von Bodmershof’s “Haiku,” with the themes of “Fallen” and “Frosten” creating distinct atmospheres. The opener, “Fallen,” immerses listeners in a slow, solemn soundscape of frosty synth washes and raging ghostly vocals, while the driving repetition and layering of keyboards generate an intense atmosphere of desolation. On the flip side, “Frosten” delivers an even colder experience with icy, blast-beat percussion and tremolo guitar noise, contrasted by ambient drones and bitter acoustic guitar melodies that evoke feelings of anger and sadness.

Though it fits within the well-established tradition of instrumental Black Metal ambient, Frostfallen impresses with its immersive and hypnotic qualities, building emotion through repetition and atmosphere. Despite its somewhat generic nature, Erancnoir’s execution is stellar, and the album’s ability to conjure vivid, frosty landscapes and internal turmoil is undeniable. Released through the now defunct Consistentis Veritatis Peremptoria label, Frostfallen remains a haunting, deeply atmospheric journey into the heart of winter’s cold grip.
