Once again, Jaap Middernacht conjures a masterful blend of psychedelic folk, progressive rock, and dark neofolk, evoking echoes of Current 93, Nick Drake, Aphrodite’s Child. Rich acoustic guitars and spectral vocals float in an intoxicating haze.

Lyrically, the album is steeped in Antichristian defiance, hedonistic abandon, and dark mysticism. Tracks like Lofzang voor de hoer (Babelon) revel in the pleasures of the flesh as an act of rebellion against oppressive dogma, while Begraafplaats sounds as if exhumed from a forgotten reel of degraded tape. Elsewhere, Zijn ogen als ochtendgloren carries a striking, almost erotic intensity, enhanced by mournful violin arrangements. The album ultimately spirals toward the abyss, culminating in Einde van de wereld—a triumphant dance with the devil at the end of all things.
